There is now a new way to explore Loch Ness with the launch of an immersive app by Jacobite Loch Ness Cruises.

The app has been specially designed to enhance the company’s boat cruises, combining technology, storytelling and interactivity to create a memorable journey across Scotland’s most iconic loch. As travellers explore the loch, GPS hotspots unlock content, revealing the area’s history, wildlife and local legends. Through a mix of entertaining challenges – ranging from quiz questions to photo and video tasks – users can interact with their surroundings while earning points for completing activities.

The launch of the app marks a new chapter in the company’s history as it celebrates 50 years in 2025. As part of the yearlong anniversary celebrations, Jacobite Cruises is also kicking off a postcard campaign this spring.

“Passengers on our cruises will be able to pick up a postcard featuring a specially commissioned image of Jacobite boats spelling out ‘50’ on the loch, on which they can write a memory from their time cruising the loch,” explains Alan Rawlinson, Business Development Manager at Jacobite Loch Ness Cruises. “Past visitors will also be able to share their memories online. From marriage proposals to Nessie spottings, we can’t wait to hear from people from all over the world about their time on the loch.”

And those visiting Jacobite Loch Ness Cruises and its restaurant and gift shop at An Talla in Dochgarroch this year will be welcomed with a floral 50th anniversary display. The display features a limited-edition 50th anniversary logo made of spring flowers, such as pansies, and will be replanted with summer flowers later in the year.

Alan Rawlinson continued: “It is a very special year for us, so we’re really excited about everything we have planned. 50 years on, we know how important it is to continue to innovate within the business and our new app will bring an engaging new way for people to explore the loch’s stunning scenery while uncovering its mysteries.

“Whether you’re a local or it is your first time visiting Loch Ness, there are so many incredible stories to be told – from Loch Ness’ history and local points of interest, to the personal anecdotes and heart-warming stories of our guests. We can’t wait to share them all as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations.”

The app can be downloaded from QR codes that will be on booking confirmations and will also be available to scan at various locations ahead of boarding a cruise, including coaches bringing passengers to the departure points for Jacobite Loch Ness Cruises. Or the app can be installed by searching for Mobile Adventures on the App Store or Google Play. Customers who complete the app activities will be rewarded with discounts at An Talla and its online shop.

Those who wish to share their personal memories and stories from any Jacobite Loch Ness Cruise can do so via postcards on the cruises or at An Talla, which can then be handed to staff, or via email to hello@jacobite.co.uk.
